An electric car is a perfect investment for 2022. With rising concerns about the environment and our planet, an electric vehicle combines cutting-edge technology with transport to offer one of the hottest new commodities on the market. We’ve put together some tips to help you care for your brand new set of wheels so that they stay looking brand spanking new.

Get Insured

Insurance is legally necessary for most states, but even if you happen to live in the two where it’s not mandated (we’re looking at you Virginia and New Hampshire!) then you’ll want it for your new car regardless. Opt for a high coverage policy, as electric cars can be subject to technical issues that regular gas-run cars are not. Compare car insurance quotes online to find the best deal for your budget.

Charge It Correctly

Looking after your battery is one of the most crucial elements of keeping your electric car in great health. Your car will stay in good condition if you keep it in that sweet spot of battery life which is between 20%-80%. Just like your cell phone, you can damage the battery if you regularly charge it to 100% and leave it on charge once it has hit its max. Aim to charge it to 80% and you’ll avoid the overcharging kiss of death. The same goes for leaving the battery flat. Even if you’re not going to drive your car for a while, give it a little juice while it’s having its rest.

Keep It Clean

The aesthetics have come a long way for electric cars so you’ll want to keep your shiny new toy looking amazing. Take it to the car wash at least once a month and spring for a hand wash, rather than a machine as they can actually be damaging for your vehicle. If you don’t have the budget learn how to perform a proper hand wash at home.

Take It Out For A Run

Just like humans, cars need to be taken out for a good run every so often. Even if you don’t need to use it regularly take it out for a drive at least a couple of times a month to keep it running smoothly.

Don’t Forget To Look After Your Motor

Without the need to perform oil changes and have regular engine services it’s easy to forget to seek maintenance for your car. Battery health aside, your tires will still need changing, your wipers blades will need updating and other general wear and tear will need to be kept on top of. Keep an eye on the general maintenance of your car and you can avoid any expensive surprises further down the line.

Park Properly

Outside weather can affect the running of your car so keep it tucked away safely when not in use. Like any battery, hot temperatures can damage your car battery’s life. The same goes for cold weather, cooler temperatures can restrict the battery performance and long periods of exposure can affect the charge hold.
