German Hydrogen Testing Company Gets Scooped Up By UL Solutions


The Illinois-based testing, inspection and certification specialist has acquired TesTneT.

UL Solutions, a world leader in applied safety science, has acquired German-based hydrogen testing company, TesTneT Engineering GmbH. TesTneT is a leader in hydrogen component and system testing.

Established in 2009, TesTneT is an expert in offering comprehensive testing services for a variety of hydrogen storage systems, hydrogen refueling stations, as well as other hydrogen-related components. As part of its hydrogen testing services, it carries out hydraulic tests, materials testing, destructive testing and customized testing for storage tanks.

TesTneT has garnered a strong global customer base over the years and is headquartered just outside of Munich, Germany, with a second location near Vancouver, Canada. Among its customers include top-tier original equipment manufacturers of hydrogen components and systems, as well as those in the automotive sector.

CEO and co-founder of TesTneT, Dr. Marius Herr, commented on the recent announcement and said that TesTneT is proud to join UL Solutions. Herr said that TesTneT is an “ideal fit” for the company due to TesTneT’s “extensive scientific expertise, steadfast dedication to safety and deep commitment to strong customer relationships.”

President and CEO of UL Solutions, Jennifer Scanlon, said that hydrogen technology continues to grow in importance as the world transitions to sustainable energy and that this technology is a “promising field” for UL Solutions. Scanlon added that TesTneT’s hydrogen testing expertise will allow the company to improve collaboration with customers and aid in the adoption of H2 technology worldwide.

UL Solutions expects the acquisition of TesTneT to allow it to aid in advancing the worldwide adoption of hydrogen-powered technologies, positively impacting global decarbonization efforts. The transaction closed on July 8, but the terms of the transaction have yet to be disclosed as of this writing.
