H2@Work Employee Spotlight: Lance Petta
Lance Petta is a Field Service Technician in Cleburne Texas, where he works directly on fuel cells for Plug customers. Before joining Plug, Lance served 14 years in the United States Navy as an aircraft mechanic. Through the Department of Defense SkillBridge program, he was able to learn the role while still on active duty, which helped him transition smoothly into civilian work and join Plug as a full-time employee at the end of August 2025.

How He Found Plug
Lance was the first person to complete SkillBridge with Plug. He had heard about the company through a friend who spoke highly of the work environment and the mission. His background in aircraft maintenance made the move into field service feel natural. The training, hands-on experience, and mentorship he received during SkillBridge set him up for success from day one.
Why Plug Felt Right
What stood out most to Lance was the support for veterans. His entire site is staffed by veterans, and he says that shared understanding and teamwork feels familiar. Plug also provides flexibility for VA appointments and encourages open communication. To Lance, that reflects genuine support rather than just a policy on paper.
Looking Ahead with Hydrogen
Lance believes hydrogen and fuel cells are the future of energy. Seeing sites operating around the world reinforces that belief. He finds the work meaningful because it contributes to an energy solution that is cleaner and sustainable.
Life Outside of Work
Outside of work, Lance co-hosts a podcast with one of his Navy friends where they talk about anime and music. He also makes his own hot sauces, experimenting with flavors and heat levels just for fun.
Supporting Veterans Every Day
Lance’s journey shows how SkillBridge can help service members move into civilian careers with confidence. At Plug, veterans bring valuable experience, discipline and leadership, and they find opportunities to continue making an impact. We are proud to recognize Lance this Veterans Day and grateful for everything he brings to the organization.
