H2@Work Employee Spotlight: Nathan Venner-VanSleet
Nathan is a Production Manager at Plug, where he leads daily manufacturing operations across multiple product lines. His focus is on meeting production targets safely and efficiently while improving processes along the way. He works closely with his team to remove roadblocks, drive accountability, and solve problems at the root instead of relying on quick fixes.

An Unexpected Start That Turned into a Career
Nathan’s journey to Plug started unexpectedly. A recruiter reached out with limited details about the role, but he decided to take the opportunity anyway. Looking back, he sees it as one of the best decisions he has made, leading to nearly a decade of growth and experience within the company.
Growing Through Opportunity
Over the years, Nathan has taken on multiple roles and challenges at Plug. He values the company’s fast-moving environment, which creates opportunities to step up and take ownership. Through this, he has been able to build teams, improve operations, and grow as a leader.
Turning Challenges into Growth
One of the most defining moments in Nathan’s career came during a period of frequent management changes. While challenging, it pushed him to take on more responsibility and eventually step into his current role. What could have been seen as instability became a turning point that shaped his leadership journey.
Balancing Growth and Consistency
Nathan says one of the biggest challenges has been managing rapid growth while maintaining structure and consistency on the production floor. He focuses on setting clear expectations, improving communication across teams, and holding everyone accountable. He believes in fixing problems the right way rather than relying on temporary workarounds.
Excited by Impact
What motivates Nathan most is the impact of the work. He sees hydrogen and fuel cells as technologies that can change how energy is produced and used. Being part of that shift, while solving complex manufacturing challenges, keeps him engaged and driven.
A Mindset for Continuous Improvement
Nathan lives by a simple principle. Be true to yourself and others and always push to be better than you were yesterday. He applies this mindset both in his personal life and in how he leads his team.
Focused on Health and Discipline
Outside of work, Nathan has made a strong commitment to fitness, nutrition, and overall health. This lifestyle shift has helped him build discipline and a stronger mindset that carries over into his work and leadership.
