Sun Day Celebration Highlights Global Clean Energy Progress in Whittier

As the world increasingly shifts towards renewable energy, upcoming Sun Day events aim to raise awareness about the significant advancements in clean energy technology. One of the key highlights is that 90% of new power installations globally are solar, empowering millions with electricity for the first time and reducing reliance on fossil fuels.

The clean energy sector has also surpassed fossil fuels in employment, with over 36 million jobs now connected to renewable energy sources, indicating a strong commitment to sustainable economic growth. Notably, the affordability of solar and wind energy has reached new heights; 95% of recent projects can now supply power at a lower cost than traditional gas or coal, signaling a pivotal change in the energy landscape.

In Europe, coal consumption has plummeted by 61% as renewables continue to gain traction, with clean energy proving to be three times more efficient than fossil fuels. Coal and gas plants are being sidelined as clean energy solutions take center stage.

California recently showcased this potential by running on 100% clean energy for over 100 days, demonstrating that entire economies can transition to renewable sources. However, a significant challenge remains: many people are unaware of these advancements. This lack of recognition has led some politicians to hesitate in advocating for solar and wind initiatives, underestimating their impact.

To combat this, the first-ever national celebration of clean energy, dubbed Sun Day, is set to take place, encouraging public participation. The Whittier event, themed “Drive Electric, Live Electric, Vote for the Sun,” will be held on Saturday, September 20, 2025, from 11 AM to 3 PM at the Electric Home, located at 8758 La Entrada Ave., Whittier, CA. This event aims not only to celebrate the progress made but also to galvanize support for clean energy initiatives, fostering a sustainable future. Participants are encouraged to join in this historic celebration and help spread the message about the benefits of clean energy.

Here are the 6 most exciting clean energy facts we’ve found:

  1. 90% of the new power being installed worldwide is solar power. Millions of people are getting electricity for the first time thanks to the sun, or shutting off dirty generators forever.
  2. Clean energy now employs more people than fossil fuels – over 36 million jobs globally are connected to the clean energy economy.
  3. Solar and wind are now more affordable than ever. 95% of the new wind and solar projects deliver power cheaper than gas or coal ever could.
  4. Coal and gas plants are turning off because of renewables. European coal consumption has dropped by 61% thanks to the growth of wind and solar.
  5. Clean energy is 3 times more efficient than fossil fuels. In fact, coal and gas power plants waste $4.5 trillion worth of energy in heat, transportation, leaks, and other pollution.
  6. Whole economies are now relying on solar. California was powered by 100% clean energy for more than 100 days this year, and solar was the biggest source of energy in the EU last month.
